Education Qualification
Master’s Degree in Geography or Geology of a recognized University or equivalent;

Desirable Qualification
(i) Doctorate in Geography or Geology (ii) Experience of Aerial Photo/ interpretation/ remote sensing. (iii) Research publication preferably on Cartography. (evidence of published work necessary)
Experience
Seven years’ experience in a Map Publication office and knowledge of different operations of production of maps including drawing and printing or seven years’ experience of research/ teaching, out of which atleast five years should be in processing data and/ or preparation of maps in a research, teaching, scientific of Government cartographic organization.

Officers under Central Government- (i) holding analogous posts on regular basis; OR (ii) with five years regular service in posts in the scale of Rs. 15,600- 39,100/- with Grade Pay of Rs. 5,400/- or equivalent
Job Description
(1) To assist the Director in thematic maps, overall control of the technical sections. (2) To assist the Director for preparation of maps for ‘National Atlas’ and other atlases & cartographic projects. (3) Checking and validating the projects, feasibility study of new projects etc. (4) To prepare details of specification of cartographic methods, map products & services. (5) Guiding training in cartography & related fields such as web mapping, cyber cartography, tele-mapping, 3D mapping, Braille mapping etc. (6) To attend other duties as may be assigned.

Job Description
(i) To prepare Tea/ Coffee/ Juice etc. for the users; (ii) To serve Tea/ Coffee/ Biscuits etc. in the official meetings; (iii) To provide regular room service to the Officers/ Staff; (iv) To collect the used cups/ plates & utensil’s etc. within the canteen premises, after concluding of official meetings and also from the rooms of Senior Officers. (v) To clean crockery/ cutlery/ utensils etc. in three stage i.e. in running normal water; in hot detergent water and in potassium permanganate solution; (vi) To sweep and wash the floor area; (vii) Cleaning/ dusting table, chair and other furniture in canteens. About National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organisation (NATMO)
The plan of compiling a National Atlas of India was formulated for the first time in this country by Prof. S.P.Chatterjee, the then Professor of Geography, Calcutta University. A discussion on this subject with late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1953 resulted in his instant approval of the project. The then Ministry of Natural Resources & Scientific Research after consultation with other Ministries decided to set up an Advisory Board in March 1954 for formulating a scheme for preparation of National Atlas of India. The Advisory Board gave a favourable report and also provided a tentative guideline about the scope and contents of the atlas. Subsequently in April 1954 the same Ministry sanctioned a skeleton staff of 7 posts on a temporary basis to help Professor S.P.Chatterjee in giving shape to the Board’s suggestions.
