The Ministry of Women and Child Development launched the 9th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026 on September 9, 2026, at the Rudraksh International Cooperation and Convention Centre in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Union Minister Annpurna Devi inaugurated the month-long nationwide campaign under the theme “Hamari Anganwadi, Hamari Jimmedari” (Our Anganwadi, Our Responsibility). The campaign aims to strengthen nutrition awareness and community participation, with focus on dietary diversity, protein-rich nutrition, hot cooked meals, maternal health and early childhood development. The initiative celebrates 10 years of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana and emphasizes community ownership through Anganwadi Management Committees. The campaign will be observed across all states and union territories through activities at Anganwadi Centres, schools, panchayats and households.

India Launches Indigenous Ocean Research Vessel ORV Sagar Manthan

India launched the Ocean Research Vessel (ORV) Sagar Manthan on September 9, 2026, at GRSE’s Rishi Bankim Shipyard in Kolkata. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) for the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, the vessel represents India’s first indigenously constructed advanced ocean research vessel. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh virtually attended the launch ceremony, with his wife Manju Singh performing the naming ceremony. The 89.50-metre vessel, built under the Deep Ocean Mission’s Vertical-4 at a cost of approximately Rs 840 crore, is designed for multidisciplinary oceanographic research including surveys of Indian Ocean mid-oceanic ridges and exploration of multi-metal hydrothermal sulphide mineralization. The vessel is scheduled for final commissioning in 2028.
