The state of Jharkhand was carved out of the southern part of Bihar on 15 November 2000. Besides these, there are a number of engineering colleges such as the NIT, Jamshedpur, Birla Institute of Technology, , Indian School of Mines University, and the National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology (NIFFT).
