Gujarat is one of the liveliest states known for its industrial and economic growth. This state is presently blessed with top class infrastructure such as good roads, uninterrupted electricity and excellent communication systems. The presence of a progressive government and an eye for entrepreneurship has led to the growth of various industries in the state, which has paved way for good employment opportunities. Though there are around 51 SEZ’s at various locations and the government’s investment plans in various sectors such as petrochemicals, ports, energy, pharmaceuticals, information technology in the state, a career in the government sector is still looked up to. The government of Gujarat’s Directorate of Employment & Training, is an organisation with an ISO 9001:2000 certification and imparts employment and training facilities to a vast number of youth looking for career options in the state. It provides employment services through a network of 41 employment exchanges Employment Exchanges/ Offices. The youth who are looking for career options in central government establishments, state government establishments and various public sector undertakings of the state and central govt. need to register their names in the employment exchanges at the various districts such as Mehsana, Nadiad, Palanpur Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Gandhinagar. For the youth with higher qualifications, the govt. has set up placement cells and university employment information centres.
The state has a number of central and state govt establishments, which offer good career options. Some of the govt. establishments offering good career growth in the field of academics and research are Information and Library Network Centre, Ahmedabad, Directorate of Groundnut Research, Sainik School Balachadi, Vector Control Research Centre, CEPT University, Navsari Agricultural University, Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, Institute for Plasma Research, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Other organisation which are present in the state where one can look for a good career growth are Department of Health & Family Welfare, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), which has its head office its in ANAND. Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals ltd., a state owned producer of Urea NPK, Mocromix, Gypsum, Sulphuric Acid, Bio-fertilizers and other chemicals. Gujarat Steel Corporation Limited (GSCL), a group of Essar steel has its head quarters in the state with branches all over the country.
