Launched on 8 October 1932, the Indian air force (IAF) is one the divisions of the Indian armed forces, who takes the responsibility of defending the airspace of the nation. The air force department involves in airborne warfare, during the times of war. The department of IAF also holds the responsibility of being an active participant in UN’s peacemaking missions. Indian Air Force owes the pride of being the fourth top air force among the globe, and the first three positions are being owned by US Air Force, Russian Air Force and China’s People Liberation Army Air Force, respectively.
Indian Air Force has three divisions of recruitment, viz., officers, airmen and Non Combatants. The eligibility and the selection process will vary according to the importance of the particular division. Being a sportsperson is a big advantage to become a member of Indian Air Force. Mostly, bachelor male sportsmen are always given the first preference, due to the physical needs of the place. The sportsman quota comes under the Group Y trade.
Eligibility for sportsman quota
Candidate should have successfully completed 10+2 years of school education. Players who have represented the nation in any sport event would be considered an additional qualification for selection. The candidate should not be less than 20 years of age and should have not exceeded 24 years, when appearing for the test. After a training period of 6 months, the candidate can draw a salary of 12,000 pm and it will keep increasing year on year. The stipend amount during the training period would be 5,700 pm. The candidate is expected to pass all physical, medical and written tests to be a part of the Indian Air Force.
Eligibility for Officer Grades
Indian Air Force recruits various levels of officers such as technical lead, flying officer and ground branch officer, based on the educational background of the person. Basic education should be 10+2 and the maximum education can even be engineering. Candidates are expected to first clear the military aptitude test, which is the baseline of the selection process. Further selections involve four different rounds, one is the written test, second is the quality test, third is the medical clearance and finally you will be a part of the merit list, based on your performance level. The basic pay for an officer grade member would be 15,600 pm, however you can enjoy from various allowances and bonuses, which may sometimes exceed your pay.
